Party pics: Metric

Canadian indie rock/new wave band Metric made their Honolulu debut at a sold-out show at Republik Saturday night. Opening was local electronica duo Alt/Air, Aly Ishikuni and DJ Kowai Kowai.

Then, after a short pause, Metric went on. The band, which started in 1998, played a mix of songs from their latest album, “Synthetica,” crowd favorites off the ridiculously catchy, more pop-influenced “Fantasies,” and even a couple older anthems like “Dead Disco,” off the 2009 album “Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?”

As an encore, the crowd was treated to “Black Sheep,” the song that Metric did for the “Scott Pilgrim” movie, and ended the night by singing along to a heartfelt acoustic version of “Gimme Sympathy.”
