Our Town: Kaimuki

A new book charts the rapid growth of Honolulu.

Kaimuki was a much smaller place in the early 1930s. The H1 Freeway was still more than 20 years from being built, and Kapahulu Avenue, shown here at the lower right, did not even yet intersect with Wai‘alae Road (running lengthwise across the photo below). Visible in the distance on the right is St. Louis College, which established its new Kaimuki, campus in 1928.
