Anna Miller’s Restaurant

One of the biggest perks of my recent move to ‘Aiea is my proximity to Anna Miller’s and its case of heavenly fresh-baked pies. And try as I might to push myself to order something different, I always come back to its iconic fresh strawberry pie, which layers a mound of giant glazed whole strawberries with luscious custard and a ring of thick whipped cream. Swoon! It’s a seasonal flavor (usually available March through September/October), so you can only get a full-sized pie close to summer, but you can scoop up just as drool-worthy miniature, single serving versions year-round. —Brie ThalmannHONOLULU home + style editor

Big Island Candies

I’m a huge fan of Big Island Candies’ ready-to-bake apple pie. The crust is perfectly buttery and flaky, and the apples have just the right sweetness. It used to be a hidden gem only at KTA Hilo, but now you can find it on O‘ahu at the company’s Ala Moana store and at select local markets (Don Quijote and Foodland Farms) or even order it for shipping. —Michelle Okada, HONOLULU Magazine

When I think of the holidays, pie has a mandatory spot on the table. If I feel like braving the line, Epi-Yas fuji apple and custard pies are for the pie purists. Hawaiian Pie Co.

I ordered the Hawaiian passion pear pie from Hawaiian Pie Co. for my birthday this year instead of a cake. I love that a lot of their pies have crust on the top and bottom for even more crispy, buttery goodness. And they walk the right balance of sweet but not too sweet while having big chunks of fruit to dig into. Mini 4-inch pies are available too if you want to try different flavors. —Andrea Lee, HONOLULU digital editor

My wife and I like the frozen, ready-to-bake version of Hawaiian Pie Co.’s caramel apple pie (we get ours from ChefZone) because we can bake it at home and eat it when it’s cooled. The crust is amazing, and the caramel apple flavor is the best version of caramel apple we’ve had in a pie! —Aaron Yoshino, HONOLULU photographer

Holy’s Bakery

My tutu introduced me to Holy’s Bakery buttered apple pies when I was a kid. She grew up in Kohala on the Big Island and knew of it from there. It’s a bake-at-home pie that makes your whole house smell heavenly. The best is the knob of butter in the center that melts all over the pie and makes the flakiest, most buttery crust. My mouth is watering thinking about it! —Donnie Ford, HONOLULU

Available on O‘ahu at Don Quijote, Foodland, Longs Drugs/CVS, Times Supermarket, holysbakery.com, @theoriginal_holysbakery

Liliha Bakery

It’s the one I grew up with, so it will make me salivate like Pavlov’s dog til the end of my days. Growing up down the street from original Liliha Bakery meant the pies I got were often still warm and jiggly, optimizing the heady bloom of pumpkin pie spices on the palate in a way no cold pie ever can. I called so often to ask if there were any pumpkin pies, mostly to be told there weren’t, that I asked Liliha Bakery to install a pie cam. Nobody got back to me. —Mari Taketa, Frolic editor

Monkeypod’s strawberry cream pie is a treat that’s worth it! A house-made crust and whipped cream cheese filling over four inches tall are topped with beautiful layers of overlapping sliced Kula strawberries and a strawberry guava jam glaze. Ted’s Bakery

I’m not the biggest fan of chocolate and coconut combinations (side-eyeing you, Mounds!), but Ted’s chocolate haupia pie somehow elevates that combo into the “my favorites” realm with its silky, layered perfection and perfectly dense crust that holds up to all that whipped, choco-co-nutty richness. —James Nakamura, HONOLULU creative director
