With its casual-cool wardrobe staples, savvy collabs and wallet-happy prices, UNIQLO has become Honolulu’s go-to store for easy fashion, offering something for women, men, keiki, business professionals, workout warriors and everything in between.
This year’s work-from-home life has made comfy-but-cute, throw-on-and-go outfits our No. 1 favorite trend. HONOLULU senior fashion editor Stacey Makiya and special projects editor Marisa Heung stopped by UNIQLO Hawai‘i at Ala Moana Center to find their top picks for lounging in style. Scroll down for their favorite finds—including a sneak peek of two never-before-seen Hawaiian Loco UT graphic tees, part of its lineup of all-new local designs launching Black Friday, Nov. 27!
MH: When I was in college, I would always tell my friends that Hawai‘i only had two temperatures: hot and hotter. I’m always looking for comfortable, breathable clothes that keep me from melting into a sweaty mess, and this fits the bill. These linen-blend shorts are perfectly airy—pair them with one of UNIQLO’s brand-new (and so, so soft) Hawaiian Loco tees and you’ve got the ultimate weekend ’fit for running errands, doing laundry or just bumming it out at home. Throw in your favorite Lanikai Juice bowl or smoothie and you’ll be cool as a cucumber.
The Brands Hawaiian Loco UT Lanikai Juice T-shirt (available starting Black Friday, Nov. 27), $14.90, linen cotton relaxed shorts, $19.90.
SM: Hawaiian Sun has been my jam since hanabata days. The Lū‘au Punch or Passion Orange, frozen-wrapped in tin foil, was a staple in my field trip lunch box. So, when I saw the UNIQLO x Hawaiian Sun tee, I couldn’t help but pounce on this sweet sell. Finding a cute pleated, polka-dot skirt that’s silky to the touch and easy to throw on (elastic waists, baby!) was a bonus. Pairing a comfy basic with something festive, and twirl-able, is my perfect outfit for a Hallmark holiday movie marathon on the couch with my daughter while enJOYing sweet treats and apple cider.
The Brands Hawaiian Loco UT Hawaiian Sun T-shirt (available starting Black Friday, Nov. 27), $14.90, men’s denim slim-fit long-sleeve shirt, $29.90, twist-pleated long skirt (Ines De La Fressange), $39.90.
MH: The moment I tried this on, one thought ran through my head: I could totally sleep in this. The material is deceptively soft and feels super cozy on your skin. Unlike most maxi dresses ever made (#shortpeopleproblems), this one is the perfect length—just right for tucking my feet into during a Netflix night in—and breathable enough to keep me cool throughout the day. (Bonus: It has pockets!) Pair it with a skinny belt for a waist-defining silhouette or wear as-is for the easiest outfit in your closet.
Japanese Auspicious Symbols aloha dress, $29.90, mesh skinny belt, $29.90.
SM: Relaxing at home is difficult nowadays. My living room is my office—and a classroom. But little pleasures like comfy-cozy clothes does wonders for my soul. This heaven-on-a-hanger outfit includes elevated essentials that easily go from the couch to the kitchen to the car—when I have to meetup with a designer or buy “something new” for lunch for a picky teen. The top offers a gentle fit that’s featherlight, the joggers have some stretch and are wrapping paper thin (sorry, got Christmas on the brain), and the cardigan, well, I just threw that in for a pop of sunshine.
Women’s AIRism UV protection long-sleeve long T-shirt, $19.90, ultra-stretch active ankle pants, $29.90, women’s light V-neck cardigan, $29.90.
