Original Hawaiian Note Cards

Inspired by Hawaii’s environment, these note cards invite you to put away your keyboard and pick up a pen.

Artist Erika collected Hawaiian seaweed from various Oahu beaches, including this beauty found in Waikiki. She then photographed it and had the cards printed in Hawaii. $3.50 each. SoHa Living, Kahala Mall, 591-9777.

Designed by ornithologist, photographer and zoological illustrator H. Douglas Pratt, these cards depict the pueo, or Hawaiian owl. They are locally printed, as well, created in Volcano, on the Big Island. $4 each. Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice St., 848-4159.

The store Showcase Hawaii features work by local artisans, including quite a bit of stationery. We fancied this hand-printed linocut card, entitled “The Octopus’s Garden,” the work of N.C. Lahe. $6 each, Showcase Hawaii at HiSAM, 250 S. Hotel St., 965-7467.

Mozaic Design, a local team of artists and designers, created this red tiletterpress note card, illustrated by Lori Nuha. The cards are printed by local company Electric Pencil. $5.50 each, Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice St., 848-4159, or mozaicdesign.co.

Watch Over Me

Local artists Dexter Doi and Carol D’Angelo create silkscreened canvas totes for their line, Ecolicious, to provide alternatives to plastic shopping bags.
