Ono Yo: a frozen yogurt truck using locally-grown fruit and Greek yogurt

With all the frozen yogurt franchises and shops coming and going, it's easy to overlook the Ono Yo frozen yogurt truck parked between Giovanni's and Kahuku Superette. But Ono Yo is different. Here, the yogurt is made with the thicker Greek yogurt, flavored with real fruit (such as locally-grown papaya or starfruit), and crowned with toppings such as shaved Waialua dark chocolate and lilikoi butter.

Marilyn and Alex Roitman, a high school English teacher and former farmer, started the North Shore's only frozen yogurt place a few years ago. They eschew the artificial flavorings and powders other frozen yogurt shops around the island use, opting instead for real fruit, locally-grown as much as possible. Their yogurt tastes like actual yogurt and is creamier than others, though it has a tendency to melt very quickly.

Right now, Ono Yo is looking for new flavor ideas. Go on its Facebook page and submit your flavor: The winner gets free yogurt every time the flavor is served.
