Night Lights Weekend Wrapup Jan 27-31

Being out and about every consecutive night from Tuesday-Saturday this week makes me question my own sanity. Do I get “nightlifed out?” Every so often, but usually I get restless after a night or two of not going out, and just give up on trying to stay home.
This weekend was one of those looong ones, though. Add the Pro Bowl, Chinese New Year and the first calendar month of the year together, and you get a really busy Honolulu.
First thing I did was the T-Pain concert on Thursday. I’m not a huge fan of T-Pain, but I have to give it to the guy, he knows how to respect his fans and put on a great show.
I swear, the backup dancers got more buzz than T-Pain himself! Not that they didn’t deserve it for being prettier, but…
Anyway, here’s the gallery:
Friday was the first day of the I Love Chinatown festival and Chinatown Get Down, in honor of Chinese New Year, so of course I was in… duh… Chinatown. Feeling especially energetic, I decided at the beginning of the night (I think it was while I was watching the lion dancers and a gazillion firecrackers going off on Nuuanu Ave.) that I was going to hit every club participating in Chinatown Get Down. So after hanging with my girls at Bar 35 for a little while, I did exactly that:
I actually remembered to check in to every location on Foursquare, unlocking a couple of badges in the process (when did they add the “Player, Please!” badge? Can I get an ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US badge too? Pls? Kthxbai.)
Saturday, I headed down to Mercury Bar first to wish my friend Kaz (that’s him in the tan plaid shirt), who is a KTUH DJ and guitarist for Soul Revival Sound System, bon voyage… he’s off to Japan to do some crazy cool things.
Then I headed over to Pearl to wish Russell Tanoue and the Beautiful people kung hee fat choy (even though Russell’s Chinese New Year party is this Saturday; click here for more info: ):
Sunday, I skipped the Pro Bowl in favor of a funeral, and later, a movie. Although it’s not as flashy as a lot of blockbusters out this year, I’d still recommend “True Grit” simply for being a great, unconventional Western with great actors. I still remember reading the book when I was somewhere around 14 myself.
This week, don’t forget about Cat Power at The Waterfront on Wednesday, First Friday, and the Roots by the Sea reggae fest at Sea Life Park on Saturday!
