Maui Fruit Jewels

Think of them as grown-up gum drops. The newest candies to delight us are Maui Fruit Jewels’ pate de fruits, soft jelly squares with a flavor intensity that reminds us of fruit rollups. They come in flavors that include ginger pineapple, lilikoi, guava and mango, and almost all of them are made with Maui-grown fruits.

“The variety of fruits I found at farmers markets in Maui fascinated me,” says Maui Fruit Jewels creator Lin ter Horst, a Columbia Business School grad and investment banker turned pastry instructor and confectioner. “It’s as if I had the fresh fruits of Central Asia, Southeast Asia, South America, Africa, on top of the Polynesian islands, all at my disposal.” She uses all that fresh fruit in her candies, which, better than gumdrops, are almost all fruit (and vegan, to boot).
