Master Class in Design and Branding

Bliss Lau and Jasmine Takanikos shared relevant and essential marketing, branding and design strategies at Saturday’s Master Class in Design and Branding at The Kahala Hotel & Resort. As an attendee of the seminar, I could see that it benefited more than just fashion industry professionals, as it went deep into social media marketing, how to build your digital resume or “deck,” how to navigate from design concept to manufacturing and much more. The class was full, with fashion industry professionals, marketing and PR managers, fine artists, photographers, musicians and others in attendance.

Two years ago, Nonstop Honolulu was there when Punahou graduate, Bliss Lau, featured her Autumn/Winter 2011 Embraced collection, draped on ballerinas at the former Waikiki Edition Lobby Bar. During the masterclass, Lau shared her inspiration behind that collection, crediting the movement of the human form and Joffrey ballet dancers. Lau’s jewelry line is synonymous with New York City fashion, but has also gained an international following, having been featured in Italian Vogue, Interview magazine and worn by Naomi Campbell.

Event attendees got an exclusive taste of the class that Takanikos and Lau teach together at New York’s Parsons The New School for Design. With the collective consciousness in Hawaii, on the cusp of having its first Hawaii Fashion Month this October, we’re ready, and hungry for even more fashion education in the months and years to come.
