Local designers showcased at OUTFIT (Part 2)

Wearhouse Sale: Apparel and Swim

Speed 2. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Star Wars: Episode I… and II and III. We're tired of sequels that never live up to the original, which is why Part Two of our OUTFIT preview is just as stylish as Part One. Today, we highlight a handful of apparel and swim designers who are bound to be frocks office hits.

Moon Spell Hawaii
What to look for: The debut of Trouble in Paradise, an edgy ready-to-wear collection inspired by tortured romance, surrealism and religious artwork. Check out the quilted bomber jacket, body-skimming crop tops and reversible minidresses, all sharply cut in ultra-soft rayon knits, microfiber and cotton.
Who designs it: Jaclyn Mae Santos graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree in Apparel Product Design and Merchandising. Born and raised on Maui, she loves to create and collect unique textiles and draws inspiration from travels around the world.

Beverly Horton
What to look for: Spirit Spring/Summer 2014 consists of whisper-weight tunics, flowy dresses and separates in three themes: Gentle Nature (soft, floral motifs), Dark Nature (animal-inspired prints in smoky neutrals) and Southwestern Fusion (brightly colored tribal prints).
Who designs it: Honolulu designer Beverly Horton attended Boston's School of Fashion Design and worked for Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue before launching her eponymous resort line.

Peace of Paradise Creations
What to look for: LO(in)VE, a bridal swim collection featuring lace accents and embroidered bandeau tops that say "Bride" or "I do," tailored for bachelorette parties, destination weddings and honeymoons. Each bikini, bridal or not, can also be custom-ordered in different fabrics, colors and details (e.g. flirty ruffles or neon ties) and made for sizes 00 to plus size 26.
Who designs it: Brooke Hauguel is a self-taught designer from South Bend, Indiana who sews each swimsuit by hand in Punaluu.

Mahiku Activewear
What to look for: Fast-drying Kini capris made of lightweight, four-way stretch fabric in punchy colors and prints that can be worn in and out of the water.
Who designs it: Big Island natives Ehiku Rademacher and Mahealani Gambill are both avid stand-up paddlers who wanted fun, fashionable clothing that could keep up with their active lifestyles.

Stephanie Sachs
What to look for: Elegantly draped silk chiffon tops and modal and cashmere-blend scarves with hand-rolled edges done in soft washes of color or animal motifs like bees, horses and beetles (left).
Who designs it: Maui-based abstract painter Stephanie Sachs uses thin layers of oils over the course of several months to creates vibrant, graphic works influenced by distant horizons.
