Kokua for Japan
Nonstop went behind the scenes for Kokua for Japan, Sunday’s huge fundraising concert at the Hilton Hawaiian Village’s Great Lawn. The superstar lineup was filled with both local and national acts, including Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald, Mick Fleetwood, Jack Johnson, Henry Kapono, Amy Hanaialii, Kalapana, Na Leo, Jerry Santos, Cecilio and Kapono, Jake Shimabukuro, The Brothers Cazimero, John Cruz and many more.
With local celebrities like Daniel Dae Kim and Kelly Hu working the phone bank, the sold-out, mega-concert raised $1.6 million for Japan’s earthquake and tsunami victims. The concert was broadcast live on local TV and radio, streamed on the Web and broadcast on Japanese radio, allowing viewers and listeners to call in donations. A spectacular event for a great cause.
