Livestream: Kīpuni Aloha no Maui
We joined hands across Hawai‘i on Sept. 1 for a statewide day-long vigil for Maui.
People across Hawai‘i paused to pay respects on Sept. 1 to those lost in the Lahaina wildfire at a daylong vigil, led by Native Hawaiian and faith leaders. The ceremonies, held at churches, businesses and other locations across the Islands, were organized to encourage emotional and spiritual healing in the aftermath of the tragedy on Maui. Above, members of several local hālau watched the sun rise together at an early morning gathering at O‘ahu’s Awāwamalu (Sandy Beach).
We are joining hands across Hawai‘i on Sept. 1 for Kīpuni Aloha no Maui, a statewide day-long vigil for beloved Maui. To unify the islands in support for Maui, the vigil will center on emotional and spiritual healing that is rooted in traditional Native Hawaiian practices and include leaders from diverse faiths. The live stream is in partnership with ‘Olelo, Akakū Community Media, KAKU 88.5 FM, Maui Stream, Hawai‘i News Now, KITV4, KHON2, Nā Leo TV, Hō‘ike TV, and other media partners and on YouTube.
HONOLULU Magazine will be live streaming the ceremonies on Sept. 1 at sunrise, noon and sunset. Visit HawaiiSoul.org/Maui for more information and the broadcast schedule.
