Kaiwa’s hidden menu
You may know that almost every restaurant has secret, off-menu items that only insiders know about. They’re special little items — sometimes they’re things that the employees have concocted for themselves that go mainstream, or they don’t match the overall restaurant theme, or maybe they’re exquisite items that are too humbug to make for the masses. Heck, even Starbucks and Jamba Juice have secret items. Whatever the case, I hope this is the first in a series of blogs about secret menus around town. If you have any leads, let me know!
Here’s our recent adventure at Kaiwa in Waikiki Beach Walk; some items are on the regular menu, some are seasonal, and a few at the end are secret. Well, they were secret.
Dinner at Kaiwa
One of my favorite dining partners is Sean Morris (the hapa guy on the left side of the table) because he’s always game for stuff and has more knowledge about restaurants in Hawaii than anyone else I know. He gathered a group of us to go to Kaiwa in Waikiki to try their ura menu, or secret/hidden menu.
