Just Opened: Via Gelato

Covenant Books and Coffee, the Christian bookstore that also served soups that inspired a devout following, has left Kaimuki, and Via Gelato has parked in its place.

Via Gelato, previously a gelato truck, raised about $8,000 on Indiegogo to help fund its new, cheery digs. Having a large, permanent space means owner Melissa Bow now offers about a dozen flavors daily, some of them new, such as tiramisu, lemon lady finger and dulce de leche swirl. Old favorites, such as fierce chocolate and coconut black sesame, remain. Even better? The Via Gelato is open late enough for a post-dinner dessert—until 10 p.m. on weekdays, 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (closed Mondays).

The cafe also offers espresso and sandwiches, but if Bow is making waffle cones when you're there, the sweet, sugary aroma is going to make it hard for you to think about anything but with what flavors you're going to top that cone.
