Here's a quick round-up of recent openings and coming-soon restaurants that we're excited about (Expect a closer look coming up in the next few weeks.):

Just opened

Kiss My Grits: Southern Biscuits and Barbeque. On the menu: biscuits and gravy, Carolina chopped barbeque sandwich, Cape Fear crab cake plate, fried chicken plate. 1035 University Ave at Puck’s Alley (behind the Varsity Bar and Nijiya Market), 348-0626, kissmygritsyall.com.

Jawaiian Irie Jerk: Chef Cassie of the long-time Jawaiian Irie Jerk lunch wagon on Kapiolani has found permanent digs in Kaimuki. In the 11th Ave Atrium, the new menu includes jerk chicken, smoke fish dip, Jamaican curry goat, Escovitch fish. 1137 11th Ave.,  388.2916, jawaiianiriejerk.com.

Opening soon

Prima: Opening 9/26. The tentative menu items include fennel panna cotta, veal sweetbreads picatta, and opelu with oregano orange marmalade. 108 Hekili St, Kailua, next to Foodland and R. Fields.

Cactus Bistro: Opening mid-November/December, this spot is going to be a Latin American bistro by John Memering, formerly chef of Kalapawai Cafe. Cuisines represented include Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Central and South American. You’ll be able to enjoy menu items such as  Argentine fry bread, Venezuelan arepas, and Tacos Al Pastor. 767 Kailua Rd, Kailua.
