Hurricane Lane Watch: What’s Open and Closed in Hawai‘i

Here’s a list of all the cancellations and closures across the state as a Category 4 storm barrels toward the Islands.

Expect canceled events, suspension of city and state services and other closures as Hurricane Lane, a Category 4 storm, makes its way toward the Islands beginning Wednesday, bringing with it strong winds, torrential rains and dangerous surf. The hurricane is expected to reach Honolulu beginning late Friday and last through the weekend.

HIGHWAYS

The Windward-bound lanes of the Pali Highway will close 8 p.m. Thursday until the storm passes.
The left lane of the H-3 in both directions will be closed from 9 a.m. Thursday through Saturday so crews can stage equipment.

COMMUNITY

Harbor Restaurant Wine on the Waterfront scheduled for Saturday will be rescheduled. Please contact Shane Kaneshiro at shane@pop-hawaii.com for further questions or concerns about the changes to the event.
Ala Moana Center will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday and will remain closed all day Friday. Most stores will remain open until 4 p.m., but some may close even earlier. Ala Moana Center encourages shoppers to call stores directly to confirm hours of operation before heading to the mall.
All Starbucks on O‘ahu closed at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Hawai‘i Children's Discovery Center will be closed from 1 p.m. on Thursday.
K9 & Keiki Carnival, originally scheduled for Aug. 26, has been postponed to September.
Consolidated Theatres locations statewide are closed from Thursday onwards. Ka‘ahumanu Theatres on Maui closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. All O‘ahu locations are scheduled to close Thursday, Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. Last show times will be around 3 p.m. All Consolidated Theatres locations will remain closed Thursday evening through Friday.
Hawaii Farm Bureau farmers markets in Kailua (Thursday), KCC (Saturday) and Mililani (Sunday) will be closed.
Royal Hawaiian Center will be closed at 4 p.m. on Thursday and will reopen once area is declared safe.
YMCA of Honolulu branches will be closed on Thursday. All programs will also not be running. The YMCA will decide on Thursday whether to reopen on Friday.
Zippy's will temporarily close locations. Kahului will shut down at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday. The 22 Zippy's on O‘ahu will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Zippy's in Hilo will follow the Prince Kūhiō Plaza hours.
Hawaiian Mission Houses will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Bishop Museum will be closed on Friday and Saturday.
Sea Life Park will be closed Thursday.
All events for Duke’s OceanFest in Waikīkī that were scheduled for Wednesday will take place. On Thursday, the Duke’s Waikīkī Amateur Longboard Classic, Pacific Tandem Surfing Contest and Going to the Dogs SurFUR Competition are tentatively scheduled to run. All Friday surf competitions are canceled and will resume on Saturday, Aug. 25. The Waikīkī movie nights are canceled for Thursday and Friday. Check dukesoceanfest.com for updates.
The Greek Festival—originally scheduled for Aug. 25 and 26—has been postponed. A new date will be announced soon.
The Rainbow Wahine Soccer Invitation, which was scheduled this week at the Waipiʻo Peninsula Soccer Stadium, has been canceled. (The University of Montana and Arizona State University women’s soccer teams decided not to travel to the Islands for the tournament.) The Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic women’s volleyball tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center this weekend will go on as scheduled.
Henry Kapono and Friends concert, which was supposed to take place this weekend on O‘ahu and Maui, have been rescheduled to Sept. 15 at the Waikīkī Shell and Sept.16 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Maui.
Comic George Lopez’s gig at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center on Friday has been postponed, date pending.
Jim Jeffries’ Saturday stand-up concert scheduled for Saturday has been postponed until 8 p.m. Aug. 31.
Spocom Hawai‘i Car Show 2018 at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall has been Postponed to Friday, Sept. 28.
Hawai‘i Opera Theatre's Quinn Kelsey & Friends Benefit Concert scheduled for Friday has been canceled. Tickets for Friday's performance will be honored at the Sunday performance or people can be refunded.
Honolulu Theatre for Youth shows on Friday and Saturday are canceled. Opening night for Filipino Folktales & Fables is rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. Ticket holders will be contacted by the box office.
Kumu Kahua is postponing the opening of Pakalolo Sweet until Thursday, Aug. 30. All tickets for this weekend will be transferred to next weekend. Call the box office at (808) 536-4441 to reschedule.
The Actors Group is postponing all shows of The Crusade of Connor Stephens until Thursday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 2.
The Big Island food show at Mauna Lani Bay Resort is canceled.

SCHOOLS

Hawaii Pacific University
All public schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. This will also give emergency teams time to set up shelters on campuses, if necessary.
DOE offices on the Big Island and Maui have been closed since Wednesday until further notice.
All after-school activities and programs, including OIA athletic events, are canceled for the rest of the week and will resume on Monday, Aug. 27. All school-related travel this week will be canceled as well.
The University of Hawai‘i has closed campuses O‘ahu and Kaua‘i on Thursday and Friday, on the Big Island and Maui starting on Wednesday. All UH campuses and System offices on Oahu and Kauai will be closed from Thursday through Sunday. All UH Mānoa athletic events scheduled for Thursday and Friday are canceled. A decision on athletic events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be made depending upon weather conditions and facility availability. Residence halls at UH Mānoa and UH Hilo will remain open for student residents. Students living in residence halls will receive specific instructions from their respective student housing offices. All employees who have been designated as disaster response workers or have been directed to report to work or remain at work due to operational needs, must still report to work.
Sacred Hearts Academy will close Thursday and Friday.
Punahou School will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Mary, Star of the Sea Early Learning Center in Honolulu will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Island Pacific Academy in Kapolei will be closed Thursday and Friday, opening tentatively on Monday.
Honolulu Community Action Program Inc. will close all HCAP Head Start classrooms Thursday and Friday.
All Head Start classrooms with Parents and Children Together will be closed on the Big Island and Maui starting Wednesday.
Christ the King Child Development Center on Maui will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Mauna Loa School, Hawai‘i Island, will close Wednesday and possibly Thursday.
Saint Joseph School, Hilo, closed until further notice.
Kamehameha Schools Maui and Hawai‘i Island campuses closed on Wednesday and possibly the rest of the week.
Classes at Sacred Hearts in Lahaina are canceled on Wednesday until Friday.

LIBRARIES AND OTHER GOVERNMENT SERVICES

TheBus and Handi-Van will be in operation until 6 p.m. Thursday and not running until the hurricane has passed and the city deems it safe for these vehicles to return to the roads. Those who have a critical medical need to use the city’s Handi-Van service after 6 p.m. Thursday can call (808) 456-5555 for reservations, which will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
The city will discontinue trash pickup, including bulky item pickup, starting on Friday. Bins should be secured during the storm. All convenience and transfer centers will be closed until further notice.
The Honolulu Zoo will be closed starting on Thursday and re-open on Sunday, depending on weather conditions.
The Waikīkī Aquarium will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
‘Iolani Palace will be closed Thursday through Sunday.
All public libraries and support offices on the Big Island, Maui, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi will be closed on Wednesday. All library programs statewide will be canceled from Wednesday through Sunday.
The city’s municipal golf courses are closed on Thursday and Friday. The palace will reopen for tours on Monday.
Boat tours to USS Arizona Memorial have been suspended. The visitor center, museums, bookstores and snack shop will remain open on Wednesday until noon.
Neal S. Blaisdell Center facility and offices will be closed Thursday through Saturday. Events this weekend have been changed or rescheduled. (See above in “Community Events”.) All tickets will be honored on new dates.
All state offices on the Big Island and in Maui County will be closed starting Wednesday. Nonessential employees should not report to work.
Maui County and Hawai‘i Island courts closed Wednesday through Friday.

PARKS

All city parks, including Ala Moana Beach Park, will be closed starting Thursday morning, due to strong winds and monster surf coupled with high tides.
Haleakalā National Park on Maui is set to close Wednesday at 4 p.m. and will stay closed through Friday.
Overnight camping at state parks across the island chain, except Kaua‘i, will not be allowed starting Wednesday.
All state parks with the exception of those on Kaua‘i will be closed to the public starting Thursday.
Nuʻuanu Pali State Wayside Park closed on Tuesday and will stay closed until further notice.
On Hawai‘i Island, all beach parks, from South Point north to Kohala, are closed until further notice.
Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau and Kaloko-Hōnokohau National Historical Parks on the Big Island will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Park managers will assess conditions on Friday.
All state forest reserves, natural area reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and public hunting areas are closed starting at noon Wednesday.
State-run trails on Hawai‘i Island, Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi are closed starting Wednesday. State trails and forest reserves on O‘ahu and Kauaʻi will likely be closed starting Thursday afternoon. Check the Nā Ala Hele site for more details.

OTHER NOTICES

Polynesian Cultural is closed for business on Thursday, however, Hukilau Marketplace and Pounders Restaurant will remain open, weather permitting, to serve the community.
Central Pacific Bank locations on the Big Island, Maui and Lānaʻi are closed Thursday. O‘ahu and Kau‘i locations will close at noon Thursday and remain cloed on Friday.
All offices of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties will close Thursday and Friday.
RevoluSun’s Kakaʻako office will close Thursday Friday. Customers can reach RevoluSun for weather-related emergencies by calling the main line at (808) 748-8888 and selecting the “Severe Weather Hotline.”
The Chief’s Luau at Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawai'i has been canceled for Thursday and Friday. The water park is scheduled to operate on Thursday.
American Savings Bank locations will be closed on the Big Island, Maui, Moloka‘i on Thursday and Friday. O‘ahu and Kaua‘i locations will close at 1 p.m. on Thursday and will continue to be closed on Friday.
First Hawaiian Bank locations on the Big Island, Maui and Lāna‘i will be closed on Thursday. O‘ahu locations will close at noon Thursday. Kaua‘i locations will close on Friday and Saturday.
All Bank of Hawai‘i locations on the west side of the Big Island are closed. O‘ahu branches will close at noon on Thursday and stay closed Friday. Maui branches will be closed Thursday and Friday. Kaua‘i locations will remain open.
Biki service will stop at 11:59 p.m. Thursday. After that, bike check-out will not work.
Uber and TheBus will provide free rides to shelters. Uber will take people to and from American Red Cross Shelters (for rides up to $50) for free with the code STAYSAFEHI. Shuttle buses will be labeled with signs. The city says you can flag down any of the marked buses for a ride to the nearest shelter.
The Honolulu Museum of Art will be closed from Thursday through Monday. All events during that time will be canceled.
Hawaiian Airlines is offering waivers for travelers who want to change their flight reservations because of the hurricane. For details, click here.
Lē‘ahi Swim School has canceled all swimming lessons at both its Honolulu and Pearl City locations on Thursday and Friday. It will decide later if classes scheduled after Friday will still run as scheduled.
Young Brothers has canceled sailings out of Honolulu from Wednesday through Saturday.
