‘Hawaii Five-O’ Recap: ‘A Ia La Aku’

I’m so bummed I missed last week’s ‘Hawaii Five-0’ episode with Jorge Garcia. Stupid DVR. But I’m finally back on schedule with Season 4 now, albeit a few days late. When I heard that Rebecca De Mornay was guest starring in this episode I was really excited. She was one of my first childhood crushes. I don’t believe I’ve seen her since “Wedding Crashers,” where she delivers the unforgettable line, “You shut your mouth when you’re talking to me!” My sister and I say that to each other to this day. Ah, sibling love. Good to see Ms. De Mornay looking classy and beautiful as ever.
So how did the rest of the episode turn out? Here’s a look at this week’s The Good, the Bad and The Weird.
The Good
- Nice to see Rebecca De Mornay acting again. Sure she’s aged a bit but I can never forget watching her on cable TV in movies such as “Risky Business,” “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle” and “And God Created Woman.” Homina homina.
- The double date scene in the movie theater was nice and I loved how Danno broke down the predictable rom com formula for McG who just didn’t seem to understand the allure of the genre. More to come on that scene later.
- The word “fisticuffs.”
- Welcome back Autumn Reeser! Although it looks like you won’t be returning again. That makes me sad.
- The local guy in the 5-0 interrogation room was fun to watch. I’m still waiting for the episode where a perp tells McG “Ho, wasn’t me McGarrett!” Come on, is that too much to ask? Who doesn’t love Rap?
The Bad
- That guardrail sure fell apart easily. Those things are designed to withstand head-on collisions, let alone impacts from cars skidding slowly into them. They better find out who was in charge of quality control when it was installed.
- Why are all those wedding guests still partying at the reception even after the bride ran away? That’s kind of uncool. I guess they figured, hey, the food and drink are already paid for, can’t let it go to waste!
- Chin asking Adam to take him off speakerphone so that Kono wouldn’t hear him reminding Adam that he promised to take care of her. Is that really something Kono shouldn’t be hearing? I think she knows already. You know, with the fighting off killers, torturing them, and the whole loving her thing. I think she gets it.
- OK. I loved the movie double date scene but I had to laugh at all the little weird things I noticed.
- The movie’s in the third act and their tub of popcorn is still nearly full. No way. That thing is usually devoured before even the previews are over. And, there was no kakimochi in there.
- What’s with the guys in the theater watching a romantic comedy solo? I saw at least two guys sitting alone. I go to movies alone occasionally but I don’t think I’ve ever been to a rom com alone. It’s not healthy to torture yourself like that.
- Even weirder than the solo guys were the bro-dates in the background. Two guys going to watch a romantic comedy together? Come on!
- And why is there a huge tray of lemons on that piano in the hotel room? I guess the lawyer wanted to keep his room Pledge fresh.
