Happy eggs benedict day!

I’m not sure why, but random national food holidays have been popping up on my radar in advance, so I’ve been able to plan my meals to celebrate appropriately. Today, April 16, is National Eggs Benedict Day. I can’t find any information on why this day was designated as such, nor can I find any websites that have the same story on the history of this decadent brunch dish. Should I care? Or should I just shut up and eat, already?

Whatever the history, whatever recipe you like best, there’s no shortage of places around town that serve eggs benedict — and some serve it all day long. I’ve compiled a little gallery of a few places we might be celebrating at today, to help you decide where to go. Where’s your favorite place for eggs benedict, and what kind do you like?

One of the most decadent benedicts on the island has got to be Longhi’s lobster benedict (ask me the price and I’ll whisper it in your ear), which features two poached eggs on a toasted baguette and Maine lobster. The hollandaise is rich and creamy without being too overpowering, since the egg and the lobster lend a lot of richness to the dish already. It’s available every day and you can even eat it at the bar, if you want to be closer to the mimosa.

Interestingly enough, today is also National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day. (For some of us, that’s every day.)
