Happy 100, Y. Hata

Food distributer Y. Hata & Co. celebrated its 100th year in business recently, and celebrated in style … literally. The company hired Cathy Lee of Cathy’s Marketplace and reStyle Hawaii to renovate their interior spaces to create a more vibrant environment for their employees to work and for customers to enjoy.

We attended a little media event last night to tour the spaces that Lee redid, then enjoyed some dishes that their chefs created using ingredients they carry. Note to those of you (like me and Pam Davis of Concierge magazine) who didn’t know: Y. Hata is open to the public for shopping, not just wholesalers. You can get ingredients and supplies here — including a famous fried chicken batter mix — cheap, as long as you can make it out to the value store in their warehouse at 285 Sand Island Access Rd.

Here’s a peek at the food they served us, as well as the interior spaces that most people will not get to see. Happy birthday, Y. Hata, and here’s to another 100 years.

Y. Hata on Sand Island Access Road is known as a food distributor, and has been in business for 100 years. You usually think of this kind of place as an industrial warehouse, but they’ve really come a long way.
