Hallowbaloo 2014

The streets of Chinatown were filled with music, spectacle, food, drink and crazy costumes for Saturday’s Hallowbaloo Street Festival presented by Burger King, which attracted an estimated 15,000 people. The party then raged on with a club crawl at most of the Chinatown bars and clubs. New this year was the Hallowbaloo “Marathon,” a fun costume walk/run to benefit various local arts organizations.
The musical stars of this year’s Hallowbaloo included both big-name local and Mainland acts, like Big Freedia of New Orleans; Nigerian-American soul, R&B, rock, hip-hop and jazz star Iyeoka with local band Quadraphonix; legendary blues instrumentalist David Lindley; Reggie Padilla and The Stella Bean Brass Band; Kalalea Lights and Gamelan Parisuda. A highlight at the end of the street fest was the huge costume contest on the Nuboo Stage, with some 5,000 entrants (not all of them made it to the stage though), where the best costumes of the night were showcased.
