Renowned Japanese chef Kunio Tokuoka pairs up with Alan Wong to present Evening Extraordinaire, a seven-course dinner featuring cuisine by the two industry leaders, at 53 By the Sea. Tokuoka has acquired six Michelin stars at his Kyoto Kitcho restaurants—three at his Arashiyama flagship restaurant, two at Toyako and one at Hana. He and Wong are both known for using seasonal, local ingredients, but Tokuoka’s also famous for how expensive his meals usually run: an average of $600 per person at his Arashiyama restaurant. See how the two bring their tastes together in this two-nights-only experience. The event, which maxes out at 100 diners per evening, includes a meet-and-greet with the chefs. To reserve your spot (with payment), call the restaurant or email tony@53bythesea.com.

PRINCE COURT REOPENS AS 100 SAILS
The Hawai‘i Prince Hotel’s new third-floor restaurant is now open and serving a range of buffet fare, including a build-your-own-ramen station, and, of course, a special Sunday brunch menu. Chef de cuisine Joseph Almoguera has also put together à la carte items for each meal in addition to the buffets, as well as a “small bites” menu, which features Hawaiian bouillabaisse, oxtail dumplings, uni carbonara, shave ice and more. The name, 100 Sails Restaurant and Bar, pays homage to the hotel’s address on Holomoana Street: Holomoana means to sail on the sea. Prince Court and Hakone both closed to make way for the expansion, which the hotel markets as its new signature restaurant.

After less than two years at the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives, Mark Noguchi’s Mission Social Hall & Café closed its doors on Dec. 14. Citing a looming 48-percent rent increase, Noguchi and his wife, Amanda Corby, decided to shut it down. Masaharu Morimoto’s restaurant at The Modern Honolulu, which also closed earlier this month, has been replaced by Ravish, led by executive chef Fred DeAngelo of Palomino, Tiki’s and Ola at Turtle Bay. On the menu? Soul food from the Pacific and South America: poisson cru, ceviche, pork three ways, rosemary potatoes in duck fat, Dole whip and much more. Ravish is open nightly from 5 to 10 p.m., with happy hour from 5 to 7.
