Guide to happy hour at International Market Place

Sponsored
When the sun’s halfway between noon and 6 is when the party starts at International Market Place: happy hour. From Yauatcha on the Grand Lanai to The Street, here are some deals you can take advantage of.
Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi
Location: Grand Lanai, 3rd floor
Hours: 3 – 5 p.m.
Menu
Roy Yamaguchi’s Eating House 1849 bar has always been a chill spot to sprawl out with some beers and local kine grindz. If I’m feeling especially ono for something big and tasty, I’ll get the Makaweli beef burger and split it with whoever I’m with so we can dip into a few appetizers. The pork lumpia are crispy and all kinds of satisfying to munch on.
Flour & Barley
Location: Grand Lanai, 3rd floor
Hours: 2 – 6 p.m. & 10 p.m. – close
Menu
Like their name says, Flour & Barley specializes in pizza and beer. I mean, what else could you need? I’m a big fan of the generous wood-fired pizzas with their tangy San Marzano tomato sauce and foldable, slightly charred crust. The margherita and Big Apple pizzas are $10 each and the in-house draft brew is $4 at happy hour. The breezy environment and abundance of TVs add to the appeal of hanging out here in the afternoon.
Goma Tei
Location: Grand Lanai, 3rd floor
Hours: 3-5 p.m.
Ahhhh. Umai! That’s what you say after you take a big gulp of Kirin draft beer and slurp up Goma Tei’s rich, spicy tan tan ramen. The Kirin is $1 off at happy hour. Show your Hawaii ID for a 15 percent kamaaina discount.
Kona Grill
Location: Grand Lanai, 3rd floor
Hours: 3 – 5 p.m.
Menu
By far the most extensive happy hour offering, Kona Grill’s food menu ranges from $4.50 sushi rolls to $8.50 flatbreads and a $10.50 sashimi platter. Drink specials include a nice mix of mule drinks ($8.50), sake bombs ($9.50) and select wines ($7) and beers ($4.50). You can take advantage of these specials at the bar, in the lounge or on the patio daily.
The Street – A Michael Mina Social House
Location: Ground floor, Kuhio Ave. side
Hours: 3 – 6 p.m.
Beer
$2 Pabst Blue Ribbon
$5 shots (Jameson or Espolon Tequila)
The Myna Bird
$5 pina colada
The Bar at Kai Poke
$5 sake bombs
$5 Jungle Juice (spiked house-made Hawaiian punch)
Stripsteak
Location: Grand Lanai, 3rd floor
Hours: 3 – 5 p.m.
Menu
When you’re feeling splurgy, a trip to Michael Mina’s Stripsteak is in order. Thanks to happy hour at the bar, where the mixologists offer a dazzling show, your wallet won’t feel so hurt. The limited menu includes a meaty cheeseburger ($21), but I prefer to snack on some makimono sushi rolls ($8) and crispy short rib tacos ($9). The duck fat fries ($6) are as irresistible as the kamaaina cocktail ($7), a citrusy libation that’s perfect against the afternoon heat.
Yauatcha
Location: Grand Lanai, 3rd floor
Hours: 3 – 6 p.m.
Although they don’t call it happy hour, Yauatcha’s flow and prosper menu is a mix of beautiful dim sum and cocktails at prices that would make anyone smile. Since the numbers six and eight in Cantonese sound similar to “flow” and “prosper,” Yauatcha has crafted a menu of eight $6 dim sum dishes and six $8 cocktails. My favorite drink is the Ginger Smash, a tall glass filled with Virginia Black whiskey, ginger, cardamom, lemongrass, lemon and ginger beer. I had about three of them for the price of one Yauatcha bar creation outside the flow-and-prosper hours. The dim sum is a similar value, since the skill and technique that go into the puffs and buns are out of this world. Go ahead, treat yourself to a few.
