Ginger13 opens Chinatown boutique and studio
Friday the (Ginger)13th

Judging by your weak stomach, we're guessing last night's candy binge got pretty ugly. So tonight, take a break from the sweet stuff and have a little Ginger instead.
In just a few hours, Ginger13 designer Cindy Yokoyama opens her first boutique in Chinatown. Consider it the culmination of a nearly decade-long dream that grew as her jewelry line did, moving from craft fairs to trade shows to more than a dozen retailers in Hawaii and Japan.
Remember Community boutique and the original Super Citizen? Now, that's where you'll head to pick up Ginger13's latest creations — signature mixed media stunners like boho-chic statement necklaces with vintage chevron bone arrows showcased in gorgeous glass display cases. You'll also have unfettered access to the designer herself now that she's moved her studio in back.

Feel free to ask Yokoyama about her walls of succulents, nestled in tiny hand-painted ceramic pots and sculpted glass vases. (She'll tell you they stem from her side business in floral design.) Or the artwork behind the counter that she painted herself. (She'll credit her bachelor of fine arts from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.)
Or you can just ask her to take 15 percent off all jewelry and plant purchases during her grand opening celebration tonight and tomorrow. (Consider it done.)
Get ready for binge number two.
Ginger13's grand opening celebration takes place tonight, 5-9 p.m., and tomorrow, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at 22 S. Pauahi St. Regular store hours are Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., closed Sundays. For more information, visit Ginger13.com.
