Courtyard Cinema: ’16 Acres’
Ward Village, in partnership with the Hawaii International Film Festival and Consolidated Theatres, hosts its monthly film series event, Courtyard Cinema, on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. Film critics and families alike are invited to enjoy a free film showing at the courtyard of the Ward Village Information Center and Sales Gallery at 1240 Ala Moana Blvd.
This month features “16 Acres,” an insightful documentary about the reconstruction of Ground Zero in New York City. The event will features refreshments from Aloha Pops, Local STOP and Cooking Fresh for You, along with activities and special guest DJ CW. ‘The Addams Family’

Based on the characters from the popular 1964-66 television show, Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and Lurch are back as the eccentric, wealthy Addams clan who delight in the macabre while being unaware that people find them bizarre or frightening. Daughter Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. Hidden secrets get revealed for both families on the fateful night when they meet for dinner at the Addams’ and their two different worlds collide. The result is hilarious.

Join in for this three-day, sci-fi, science, and fantasy convention on Hawaii Island. Along with panels featuring scientists, sci-fi writers, actors and actresses, comic book artists and others, there will be workshops, meet-and-greets, gaming at the Steampunk Casino (come dressed for the part) and more.
The Steampunk Gala will showcase the musical talents of Stargate Atlantis’s own Rachel Luttrell, and celebrate Walter Koenigʻs 78th birthday.
SuperCW’s Sunny Daze CD Party

The Safehouse will be hosting SuperCW’s Sunny Daze CD party. Specializing in indie dance, tropical, fun, feel-good vibes, Christa Wittmier (aka SuperCW) was raised on motown and ’80s funk. DJs Gnaraly & Deko round out the free dance party. The first 100 through the door after 9 p.m. will receive a copy of SuperCW’s Sunny Daze CD. This is a 21 and over event.

Fresh 2014: ‘Dancing for the Future’

The Valerie Joseph Boutique and Cades-Schutte present the 7th annual Fresh Fashion event, Dancing for the Future, a fundraiser to benefit local nonprofit Community Helping Schools. It will be held at The M night club at Restaurant Row on Sept. 13, from 5–9 p.m.. All ages are welcome.
The “trash couture” fashion show, a highlight of the night, will showcase an explosion of elements, from junk to gemstones, transformed into a stylish and imaginative wearable art collection. Live entertainment by D’Manti, Na Hoku Hanohano nominee Sunway and the aerialists from Samadhi Hawaii. Tickets are $20 and include a raffle ticket. ‘Hawaii Five-0’ Season 5 Premiere

Sunset on the Beach is back for season five and everyone is invited. Celebrate the season five premiere with the cast and crew of “Hawaii Five-0.” The Beach Red Carpet begins at 6 p.m. and the premiere screening starts at 7 p.m. There will be entertainment by the band Bush.

Prepare yourself for a radical music video event. Filmmakers will have 336 hours, or two weeks, to make a music video using one of the provided MP3s from local artists. Hawaii Symphony Orchestra: The Bard, Ballet & Bolero

The Hawaii Symphony opens its 2014-2015 season with the orchestra playing Tschaikovsky’s Overture Fantasy to Romeo & Juliet; Mendelssohn’s Selections from A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Ravel’s Bolero; and Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes. The Onium Ballet Project also will perform.

“Under the Blood-Red Sun” screening

Graham Salisbury, author of the book, “Under the Blood-Red Sun,” will be on hand to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the young adult book, which has been made into a film. The book has been a favorite read for 20 years and required reading for middle schoolers in Hawaii. It tells the story of a 13-year-old Japanese American boy who sees Japanese war planes drop bombs on Pearl Harbor, then sees his grandfather and dad sent to Japanese internment camps. Meet and greet the movie’s director Tim Savage and some of the actors.

Come to this benefit jazz concert featuring the smooth vocal talents of Shari Lynn, Jimmy Borges, PBS Big Band, Piranha Brothers and the Sunset Jazz All-Stars, including Jim Howard, Steve Jones and Darryl Pellegrini as they celebrate La Pietra’s 50th Anniversary.
Individual tickets are sold at $65 and includes open seating with wine, coffee, and a “Late Summer Fresh Berry Jello.” Gourmet picnic baskets are available for pre-order before Aug. 29 at $140. Each basket serves 4 to 6 people and has a menu crafted by Eberhard “Chef Hardy” Kintscher exclusively for Sunset Jazz. Tables are also available for purchase at $1,500 and $3,000 price levels.
