Eat the Street Japan: The heart of the matter
Honolulu’s biggest ever food truck rally rolls tonight, and it’s all about Japan.
Thirty-two trucks and booths will converge on the massive open lot at South Street and Halekauwila for the third Eat the Street rally. More than half are pushing out new dishes created for Japan. Hank’s Haute Dogs is donating 100 percent of sales to relief and recovery work after the triple catastrophe three weeks ago. Gogi Korean Tacos is donating 20 percent plus all tips, Jawaiian Irie Jerk 10 percent, Lickety Split 5 percent.
All of Elena’s banana lumpia sales tonight will go to help Japan. So will Fairycakes’ gross from its furikake Rice Krispie treats, Melt’s total from tomato soup sales and Xtreme Tacos’ gross from its Mexican edamame. Simply Ono is giving $5 of every shuutome order to Japan, Sweet Leilani Treats $1 for every Mikawaya mochi ice cream sold, and Shogunai Tacos $1 for every Osaka Jo taco plus the night’s tips.
We had a chance to talk to Shogunai’s owner Matt Duffy, who lived in Osaka, about his ties to the Japan and his involvement with Eat the Street. Here’s the video:

Come, eat, have a good time. And let’s help Japan.
