Duck soup and oxtail soup at Ken Fong restaurant

This weather dictates a soul warming soup. I stumbled across one when my friends dragged me into Ken Fong, one of those Honolulu institutions with fluorescent lights and linoleum floors serving unassuming, hearty food.

The duck noodle soup took the chill off—practically half a braised duck, the meat shredding off like kalua pig, jutting out of a dark broth with thin egg noodles. All for $6.50. We also ordered the oxtail soup, good enough to include in my roundup, with soft, long-stewed meat. The oxtail soup is the lunch special today (Friday).
