Philippines Typhoon Relief Fundraisers

Even if you don’t have friends or family in the Philippines, you’re probably aware of the devastation that resulted from Super Typhoon Haiyan, which has killed an estimated 10,000 people, and has left more than 28,000 families without shelter and basic necessities. Besides donating directly to organizations providing relief, here are a few events you can attend that are doing their part to help:

-Aloha for Haiyan Survivors: a benefit pau hana for Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts @ M Nightclub: 15 percent of the proceeds from pupu and drinks will go to CARE, a global poverty-fighting organization with an emphasis on women’s empowerment. Event prizes donated by The Sheraton Waikiki and PF Chang’s China Bistro. Organizers will also be collecting checks made out to “CARE,” as well as donations of blankets, clothing and basic toiletries. Thursday, Nov. 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. No cover, 21+.

-Philippines Typhoon Relief Fundraiser @ The Modern Honolulu’s ADDICTION Nighclub: All door proceeds will be donated to the Save the Children Foundation, plus a portion from all half bottles of Veuve. There will also be a silent auction from 9-11:30 p.m. with speciality items including a Volcom Surf Board, Bottle Service at ADDICTION & a two-night stay in an Ocean View Room at The Modern. Thursday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. $10 for non-hotel guests, 21+.

– Chefs for Hope @ Blaisdell Exhibition Halls: Chef Chai, Russell Tanoue and some of the Hawaii culinary scene’s heavy-hitters, including Morimoto, Roy’s, Michel’s, 12th Ave Grill, Alan Wong’s, Sansei Sushi Bar and over 20 others host this dinner, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Salvation Army for Philippines relief. Monday, November 25 at 6:30 p.m. $100 for grazing tickets, $150 general seating, $1500 for reserved seating (10 ppl), available from Chef Chai at the Pacifica or the Blaisdell box office.

-Hy’s Steak House Typhoon Haiyan Relief Dinner @ Hy’s: Executive Chef Erwin Manzano, who was born in the Philippines at Cagayan Valley, creates a Filipino inspired 3-course dinner with proceeds to support the Typhoon Haiyan fundraising efforts. Tuesday, Nov. 26, first seating at 5:30 p.m. Call 808-922-5555 for reservations.
