Discovering Megs Drive In

Megs Drive In has been serving up old-school local favorites in Kalihi since 1967. For people who grew up or live in the area, Megs is an institution that also serves up generations of memories. Yet, for those of us who have never been there, the spot is virtually unknown.

A bit of trivia: Do you know who the drive-in is named after? And why did they leave the apostrophe in “Megs” off the sign? I’ll tell you. Click the photos below to find out.

Our Twitter friend Rick Nakama suggested we go to Megs (note: Rick did not pay for our meal — if he could do that, he’d be driving a better car) to see what it was all about. His grandfather started the business, so he knew it well.

As you can see, there’s an extensive menu, plus a list of specials that change daily. You can opt to sit inside or on the benches outside.
