Did this: Taste of Helumoa

Although Friday night’s Taste of Helumoa Food & Wine Festival at Royal Hawaiian Center didn’t sell out like last year’s inaugural event, the manageable crowd, near-perfect weather and diverse offerings from eight notable eateries made for a relaxed gathering where attendees could linger to enjoy food, wine and good company.

The event — intended to showcase participating Royal Hawaiian Center restaurants — featured small plates from Azure, Chibo Okonomiyaki, Doraku Sushi, Il Lupino, P.F. Chang’s, Restaurant Suntory, The Cheesecake Factory and Wolfgang Steakhouse. Each dish was accompanied by a wine or liqueur pairing from Young’s Market Company, which was included as part of the $75 admission.

Along with food and wine, there was entertainment by Teresa Bright. A portion of the proceeds raised goes to the Aloha Festivals and the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative.

Here’s what I saw and tasted:

A beautiful evening — cool and calm. No lines. Creative dishes. Wine. Waikiki. Let’s hit it.
