Did this: Improvaganza! 2011

The sixth annual Improvaganza! Improv Comedy Festival kicked off on Thursday and continued Friday with a hilarious lineup of local and visiting performers from all over the nation at two venues: The ARTS at Marks Garage and The Venue at BambuTwo.

This year, in addition to three days of performances, the festival is also offering workshops on Saturday for anyone interested in being an improv comedian.

We stopped by on Friday to check out the later show at The ARTS at Marks Garage, featuring improv comedy troupes Morally Improv-erished (Juneau, AK), Dirty Laundry (Seattle) and Puppet This (Seattle). We weren’t sure quite what to expect, but found ourselves thoroughly entertained by the storytelling skills and brilliant wit of the performers. Take a look at some photos and a rundown of the show, and remember… each performance will be different!

If you missed the first two days, the show goes on tonight (Saturday, Sept. 24) with performances starting at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. at both The Venue and The ARTS at Marks. The lineup includes Dirty Laundry, Galapagos, Hello Laser, Puppet This and Super Mega Art Show.

Morally Improv-erished, from Alaska, specializes in working with local playwrights, taking the first page of an unpublished play and incorporating it into a full-on show. Not going to give too much away, but the crazy plot of their act, which takes place in the 23rd century, included elements of romance, mystery, social ineptness and sci-fi.
