Did this: Gingerbread Family Festival

Lots of colorful, fun gingerbread creations were constructed Sunday, as part of the 14th annual Easter Seals Gingerbread Family Festival at Blaisdell Exposition Hall. Hundreds turned out to participate in two sessions (morning and afternoon), building gingerbread houses from purchased kits that benefit Easter Seals Hawaii programs.

A total of 2,000 gingerbread houses will be created as part of this year’s statewide event (it also takes place on Hawaii Island, Maui and Kauai). Last year’s festival netted $170,000 for the charity.

For the first time, on Oahu, a corporate competition was held during the morning session, challenging businesses to build elaborate designs out of gingerbread. Here’s a look at how it all went down.

A big turnout as usual for the two-hour morning session. There was also an afternoon session that followed and filled Blaisdell Exposition Hall.
