Did this: Dessert Fantasy

It happened yesterday, the yearly homage to sugar, in the form of Dessert Fantasy 2012: 54 desserts from 42 bakeries and restaurants across the island, available for unlimited sampling in as much quantity as you could physically tolerate for two hours.

You could have had all this for $25 (plus $5 validated parking and another $5 for a take-home box at the end), had you known about this annual benefit for United Cerebral Palsy, either because you’re a veteran dessert fiend or because you read about it here in our monthly Foodscene. If not, take heart, there’ll be another one next November.

For reasons involving balanced diets and such, I didn’t plan to go, but I couldn’t get the visions of tarts and mousses and dark creamy fudge out of my head. And so at the last minute, with a half-hour to spare, I tore into Waikiki and into the Grand Ballroom of the Pacific Beach Hotel.

Which explains why some of the desserts in these photos have no captions: I have no idea who made them. I took them purely as food porn. I do apologize to the hard-working kitchen staffs who labored over their creation. And then when the take-out boxes came out and the free-for-all began, I put away my camera, joined the frenzy and stuffed my take-out box until it wouldn’t close.
