It doesn't have a real name yet, but that didn't stop the groundbreaking ceremony this week for the school currently known as Kapolei II Elementary School.

Located between Kunehi Street and Fort Barrette Road in the rapidly growing community of Kapolei, the 78,404-sq. ft. school will accommodate about 750 students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 5, with room to expand as the community grows. The campus will feature air-conditioned classrooms, school gardens, playfields and Wi-Fi in every building. Construction is estimated to cost $40 million.

Developer D.R. Horton provided the land for the project and is working with Kiewit Building Group Inc. and the state Department of Education on construction.

Kapolei residents will be asked to help pick an official name for the school when construction is complete, which is projected to be in April 2015. The first classes will be held the following fall.
