The Moiliili Summerfest expands the Moiliili Hongwanji Mission's bon dance with an all-out neighborhood celebration. Expect nostalgic bon dance eats—BBQ sticks and manju—on Friday, July 5, and on Saturday, 20 vendors convene for an Eat the Street-style bash. Vendors include OkoGuys, the roving okonomiyaki slingers; Karai Crab, specializing in get-down-and-messy seafood boils; and fresh pasta-maker Onda Pasta. Then, cool off with sweet treats from OnoPops and Il Gelato.

The Moana Surfrider celebrates summer with its annual Mangoes at the Moana, a full-day celebration of one of our favorite fruits. Enter the recipe contest; taste mango dishes from Ed Kenney of Town, Chai Chaowasaree of Chef Chai, Hardy Kirschner of Michel's and other chefs; and (my favorite) sample varieties outside of the common and Hayden mangoes at the best mango contest. Makaha Mangoes will also set up in the courtyard to sell its famous, fragrant fruit.
Then, on Sunday, join Beachhouse chef William Chen and Top Chef contestant Lee Anne Wong for a daytime brunch party: Keep Calm and Brunch On, featuring five mango-inspired dishes, served family style, plus four cocktails. $55

Kailua embraces its reputation as a brunch destination with its first outdoor Brunch Fest. The ever-popular Cinnamon's will offer its famous pancakes, while the newer food truck Whatcha Fillin' will serve its unique waffle cakes, more akin to the Japanese imagawayaki than American waffles, overstuffed with sweet and savory fillings.
