Blackbird, Longman & Eagle, Fat Rice

To close my epic Chicago vacation, I visited two Michelin-rated restaurants and an up-and-coming, dinner-only spot. Blackbird has been a pillar of the Chicago food scene for the past decade, helping put Chicago on the national culinary map. Longman & Eagle is a favorite of Chicago natives and serves up comfort food elevated to new heights. Fat Rice serves only dinner, doesn’t take reservations and has a list of house rules, including no phones at the table unless you have 500 or more Twitter followers (in which case they ask you to use #EatFatRice).

Blackbird is the one-Michelin-star flagship restaurant of Chef Paul Kahan. He was recently honored as co-outstanding chef of 2013 by the James Beard Awards. Chef Paul has built a small restaurant empire in Chicago with other notable eateries, avec, the Publican and Big Star.

I met Saagar, one of my good college buddies, for lunch. The $22 three-course prix fixe can’t be beat!
