The Beet Box Cafe
Haleiwa’s Beet Box Café is a welcome, vibrant eatery in a town overrun with spots to drink beer and eat so-so food. Beet Box’s all-vegetarian offerings include a Beirut Burger with a pan-fried, homemade falafel patty topped with red onion, tomato and cucumber, and a Portabella Stache’wich—portabella and zucchini sautéed in what tastes like balsamic vinegar and shoyu, and stacked high with feta, bell pepper and sunflower sprouts. Inside Celestial Natural Foods, 66-443 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa, thebeetboxcafe.com.

Let Them Eat Cupcakes
The cupcake niche gets more crowded every day, but new bakery Let Them Eat Cupcakes is proof that there’s always room for another if the product is great. Our favorite LTEC flavor: the double-chocolate with vanilla-buttercream frosting, which is like falling into a dream. 35 S. Beretania St., 531-2253, letthemeatcupcakes808.com.
