Beer and wine: Maui Brewing dinner at 12th Ave Grill, Cactus' first wine dinner, August Moon

Summer heats up with beer dinners and wine events:

Cactus’ first wine dinner features wines from Bodegas M and L’Aventure wineries, on the California central coast. Highlights from the six-course dinner: Venezuelan arepas topped with Pisco-cured marlin and mango escabeche; tamale with duck carnitas, foie gras and a tomatillo jalapeno marmalade.

The fourth annual August Moon at the Honolulu Museum of Art brings you wine from 31 winemakers, giving you a chance to try new wines, and lots of them. Some of the wine makers and owners will be in attendance to showcase wines that have never been sold in the Islands, as well as those that have been selling their wine here for years.
Some of the new wines: Casey Flat Ranch from Yolo County in California, a brand new wine region, and Rock Wall Wine Company, producing wine in an abandoned airplane hanger just across the bay from San Francisco.
A sampling of the plates to be served:
Salt: kampachi tartare with lychee-avocado-grapefruit ash, and garlic chips.
Mavro: Seared nairagi with Hanapepe salt, watercress kanten, and garlic-lemon-olive oil purée
Honolulu Museum of Art Café: Big Island red veal sliders with pickled sweet onions and shiitake ketchup
Nobu: Mango "tagliatelle" with mizuna salad and duck confit

Interisland collaboration comes together for 12th Ave Grill’s beer dinner featuring leg of lamb, slow roasted goat hash and beef heart, sourced from Maui Cattle Co. and paired with Maui Brewing Co. beers. Nibble on local rabbit fritters and sip on Maui Brewing’s La Perouse White. Taste Maui’s Pueo Pale Ale, Westside ESB (Extra Special Bitter), and Hawaii 90 (a strong Scotch ale), beers exclusive to Maui Brewing’s brewpub.
