Anthropologie opens in Hawaii

Women across the state are excited that Anthropologie, the boho-chic clothing and home accessory store, opens today at Ala Moana Center. We got a sneak preview and shopping spree last night at a special VIP event, so you can plan your shopping strategy before you get there.
This new 10,000-square-foot store is located on the third floor above Tiffany & Co., and has several features that are unique to Hawaii. One, of course, is the front window, which features a giant “Aloha” made of cocktail umbrellas and a rendering of Oahu made of retro postcards. The in-store artists worked more than 80 hours to create works on color theory showcasing the art of color making and combining throughout the store.
On the mainland, you can only get Anthropologie’s swimwear in the catalog or online, but here in Hawaii, it will have an ample collection right in the front of the store.
The store is still working on getting local designers to provide apparel and accessories, but for now it has just a few exclusive items, like the blouse and soaps, above.
Best of all for Hawaii women, the store will have a 1,000-square-foot petites section — the largest in the entire company — with more than 50 exclusive styles from designers such as Cecilia Prado, Cynthia Vincent, Tracy Reese and Ranna Gill. Anthropologie brought in its petites buyer to observe our particular shopping preferences, so she’ll be tweaking and expanding the store’s offerings over time.
Here’s a look at the rest of the store at last night’s event. For more photos, click here.
Anthropologie will also take part in the week-long Pow! Wow! Hawaii 2015 art and music festival as the sponsor of a piece by conceptual crochet artist Olek. Her sculpture, a traditional Hawaiian canoe sheathed in crochet, will be on display in front of the Honolulu Museum of Art from February 7 to 13.
