This Saturday, Pier 38 transforms into a bustling block party where you can stock up on discounted fishing gear and connect with industry experts. In addition to shopping, visit educational booths to learn about ocean safety, watch gear demos, listen to live music, including a performance by Sean Na‘auao, and of course, snack on delicious seafood eats. Keiki can also learn how to cast a line, join the ice dig to win cool prizes and play mini games.

King Kamehameha Day falls on Thursday, June 11, this year, and the festivities continue into the weekend. Watch Hawaiian cultural protocols and pageantry at the King Kamehameha statute at Ali‘iōlani Hale on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, take in the procession of floral floats, marching bands and pā‘ū riders as they parade from ‘Iolani Palace to Kapi‘olani Park. Finally, enjoy the ho‘olaule‘a at Kapi‘olani Park with Hawaiian cultural activities, hula, live entertainment and games.

This big, beloved book sale is back for its 77th year, with proceeds supporting the state’s public libraries. Browse more than 125,000 used books in every genre imaginable, plus CDs, DVDs, comics, manga and more. Heads-up: the nonprofit’s Village Books & Music location at Ward Centre closed at the end of May but will reopen in July at 610 Ward Ave. (the building with the President Obama mural).

Head to the North Shore for a day of visual arts, dance, music, food and keiki activities at this beachfront gathering.
