Shake Shack, iconic restaurateur Danny Meyer’s 625-store global empire of burgers and frozen custards, is opening its first Hawai‘i location somewhere on O‘ahu in 2027, the company announced this morning. While scant on details, Shake Shack says signature items will feature, including the ShakeBurger, ChickenShack, crinkle-cut fries, lemonade and freshly spun frozen custards, along with “locally inspired flavors, purveyors, and artwork.”
The Hawai‘i partner is Honolulu-based Union MAK, the company behind Hawai‘i locations of IHOP, Olive Garden, Texas de Brazil and Capital Grille, recently opened in Waikīkī. There’s no word yet on the specific site of the coming Shake Shack.
Meyer, founder of New York-based Union Square Hospitality Group, is the brainchild behind restaurants including Union Square Café, Gramercy Tavern and Eleven Madison Park (since sold). He opened the first Shake Shack across the street from EMP in 2004 to help revitalize the neighborhood and build traffic for the fine-dining restaurant.
The Hawai‘i Shake Shack joins a network of locations across the U.S., much of Asia, London, Mexico City and the Middle East. Hawai‘i will be the chain’s 35th U.S. state.
