12 Restaurants Are Creating Slimy Specials for Next Week’s Natto Takeout Dine-Around
Everything from natto eggplant bolognese and natto oyako donburi to guava natto white chocolate chip cookies.
It’s natto too late. If you were shut out of tickets for the July 10 Natto Day Dinner at Robata Jinya—which sold out in less than a day—12 restaurants around Honolulu are offering special dishes featuring the malodorous fermented beans. Shoutout to my co-organizers, OG natto fans Scott Pang and Greg Sekiya, for instigating next week’s Natto Takeout Dine-Around.
Created during the pandemic, the event lets natto lovers spread their slimy enjoyment over several days and multiple restaurants. Diehards have been known to gather friends to collectively try every dish. Choices this year include natto poke bowls, assorted natto noodle dishes, braised natto spare ribs, natto oyako donburi and a slew of natto sweets.
