[re]Think Hawaii eats

Over the past few days, the social media conference [re]Think Hawaii, in partnership with the Hawaii International Film Festival, has brought together a diverse group of entrepreneurs in tech, media, entertainment and food to exchange ideas and “rethink” how they do business and live their lives. Aside from being geeks in their own right, a common denominator they share is a love for good food.

Like all conferences, networking opportunities exist after the sessions end. After partying down at the opening gala for The Edition hotel, where out-of-town attendees are staying, Nonstop Honolulu caught up with the “Geeks on a Plane” group Monday night at Doraku Sushi for the [re]Think dish crawl.

After greeting the [re]Think attendees, Chef Hideki Yoshimoto sent out sushi dishes like ahi tataki, and a phenomenal poke made with Doraku’s house-made soy sauce. From there, we made our way through the rain to the next stop on the dish crawl, Roy’s Waikiki, where we were treated to tasty bits like a Porcini mushroom ravioli with truffle foam.

The good eats continued Tuesday at Dole Cannery. After reading about the Gogi Korean taco truck on Nonstop Honolulu, conference organizer Christine Lu asked me to help bring the Gogi truck by [re]Think to feed hungry attendees after a morning of speaker sessions. It wasn’t difficult to get a hold of Jim, the owner of the Eat Gogi truck, who was eager to help. A few e-mails and a phone call later, the Gogi truck was parked out front of the theaters ready to serve [re]Think attendees.
