OMG — going to Seoul!

I’ve been to Korea many times — but never past the airport. Never watched a K-drama, don’t know K-pop from J-pop. But I love Korean food, and in 48 hours I’ll be eating my way through Seoul!

I still can’t believe it. Four nights ago my dad’s just had knee surgery, family flies in from California to help, and this trip falls in my lap. Hawaiian Air is launching its new service to Seoul with an inaugural flight tomorrow and invites some bloggers along for the ride, including Nonstop’s Cat Toth. Cat knows I entered Hawaiian’s Twitter contest for a trip to Seoul because I want to try real Korean food in Korea. When family matters force her to cancel, she asks Hawaiian and its PR firm, McNeil Wilson, to put me in her place. Cat is golden.

I’ve bought boots and booked a hotel in Myeongdong. Thanks to Kara, Lori, Cathy, Melissa and Lucy, I’ll be well swaddled against the sub-freezing temperatures. And thanks to Lori and Sean, Dad will be in good hands.

So from Thursday Hawaii time, I’ll be on the hunt for winter street food, dazzling varieties of jun, department store food basement grinds, funky Korean pizza, and the best chige, beef soup and king kalbi I can find. Purely because the human body was not meant for nonstop eating, I’ll also be wandering cool neighborhoods, scoping out the shopping and tagging along on some of Ryan Ozawa and Burt Lum’s techie adventures.

What else? Is there something I shouldn’t miss, something you want to see in a blog? Do you know foodies in Korea who can show me the best, most fun or most authentic? Post a comment and let me know, or message me at Twitter.com/nonstopmari.

I’ll have 72 hours in a nation full of kalbi and kimchee. Seoul food, here I come!
