Pics: The KoAloha Story
Last night, the KoAloha Ukulele team invited more than 200 family and friends to join them in watching the premiere of a documentary short film by Gary San Angel called, appropriately, “The KoAloha Ukulele Story.” The film focuses on Alvin “Papa” Okami, the patriarch of the business, and his journey from entertainer to inventor, and the various people around the world who love the ukuleles he makes.
I can’t show you film clips, of course, but I can share pictures of the event and videos of the international performers that came to celebrate with the Okamis. It was an evening of good food, good music, and good friends.

Here’s a clip of the amazing Victoria Vox (who even sells ukulele-themed underwear) singing “C’est Noye” in French.
The Seoul-based band, Ukulele Picnic, performed … in Korean. As you can see, their passion for the ukulele jam style is very prevalent! Korea is a growing market for the ukulele.
The ukulele is also getting big in Thailand, which makes sense, since they live in as much a tropical climate as we do. Dig this jazzy number by Singto Numchok, in Thai!
These were just quick, one-minute clips with my iPhone. If you would like to see the full performances, catch them on Channel808.
