Down on the makai side of Nimitz, surrounded by industrial shops and cinder-block walkups, Alicia’s Market is as old-school as they come. The neighborhood store opened in 1949, a full 10 years before statehood.
Today it gets steady business from truckers, construction workers, townie foodies and just about everybody else on the island. Why? Some of the best poke in town, plus Hawaiian food, crack seed, boiled peanuts … simple, old-fashioned food that brings back memories and makes you feel good.
