Aloha Sapporo! Last day in the city
Hawaiian Airlines’ flights from Sapporo to Honolulu are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m. (arrives in Honolulu at about 10 a.m.). We spent one last night in the city, but due to the late flight, were given the bonus of an extra day, as well. If you do this, just remember that you need to check out of your hotel on time, but they’ll hold your bags for you.
Due to Laurie’s very bad influence on me, we had pretty much shopped to our limit, which for Hawaiian Air is two bags at 70 pounds each for free. I don’t recommend this unless you have good wheels and a strong back, because we had to lug this pile, at right, through the train stations and up and down the train cars. This isn’t super difficult, but in rural areas like Noboribetsu, we found we needed to manually carry the suitcases up and down stairs (not even escalators).
I tell you this because we had to figure out a way to spend our last day without buying more things — which is hard to do in a place where everything is delicious and/or cute. My recommendation is to do some sightseeing: Sapporo beer museum, Odori Park, or even a temple. Since it was raining really hard on our last day, we couldn’t go to Odori Park. But, here’s what else we did:

People who tell you there’s nothing to do in Sapporo haven’t looked in the right places. There’s a plethora of restaurants, bars, parks, temples, and shopping, everywhere you look. Here’s just one shot of Susukino, the big entertainment district; there are more than 1,000 bars and restaurants open through the night, all located in a four block radius.
