Fashion moment: What’s chic for guys

Men are often left out when it comes to fashion. Overshadowed by women’s clothing, men’s wardrobe choices have always been severely limited. For this month’s trend segment on KHON, I decided to shine the spotlight on men for a change. Here’s a preview of a few of summer’s chicest trends for guys.
Colored Suits
Who says you can’t wear a head-to-toe colored suit? Long gone are the days of three-piece, black-and-white suits. To inject a dose of playfulness and youthfulness into your wardrobe, invest in a well-tailored bold print or colored suit. Color block your suit choice with a contrasting tie, and pocket square if the occasion calls for it. Be weary though, some colors don’t work with all skin complexions. Guys, make sure you get measured prior to purchasing. Suits after all, are all about the fit.
Stripes
Stripes have been around for decades, but recently I think men are starting to take bigger risks with them. During the S/S 2013 men’s fashion shows, stripes played an intricate part in this season’s trends. We saw stripes coming down the runway of Gucci, Diesel and Salvatore Ferragamo. Turn the often over-the-top runway looks into something accessible for everyday wear. Don’t narrow the stripes in your closet to the occasional dark grey pinstripe blazer. Take bigger risks with it. Go for thicker, bolder, more visible stripes when planning an outfit. The key to stripes is not to overdo it. If you’re going to wear a striped, button-down shirt, wear a solid colored bottom, and vice versa to deter.
