Hawaii Fashion Month Fash Mob
If you happened to be at Ward Centers Saturday night, you were pretty much a part of fashion history in Hawaii. Ward Centers and Hawaii Fashion Month (HFM) partnered to present the first surprise street Flash Mob, incorporating dancers from Underground Movement and 18 professional models.
As “Fashion” by Lady Gaga blasted out-of-the blue at Ward Theatres, dancers popped up out of the crowd, dancing from random areas at the top, middle and bottom of the entertainment center. Then, 18 models frozen as mannequins came down the escalator, donned in faux hawks, wearing HFM shirts cut by designer Nickie Q. of Twisted Cuts, and bottoms by T.J.Maxx and Town & Country Surf.
The moment of the night happened when the dancers and models crossed the street, Abbey Road-style. They literally stopped traffic, as a throng of people followed them across the street, right to the stage, where Underground Movement impressed the crowd with their hip-hop and b-boy moves. The performance was followed by a fashion show featuring the 18 models in their femme rocker-inspired ensembles. I was honored to produce the HFM FASH Mob and introduced Melissa White on stage. White, Toby Portner and State Sen. Will Espero are the co-chairs of Hawaii Fashion Month.
The hair and make-up team included Melanie Samiano and Evy Oliveros of Motives Cosmetics, Ally Pacheco and Paul Brown Hawaii. Styling the models were Amy Azada, Mary Witkowski, Nickie Q. and me.
