10 things: What’s hip in Honolulu
We’ve made it our business at Nonstop to cover the happenings in Honolulu, and as part of this mission, we’ve noticed fashion, food and other trends we thought would be fun to share. So here are the first 10 of what could be a regular feature on what’s hip in Honolulu.
Cool brunches
Brunch culture has never been big in Honolulu, except on special occasions at fancy hotels. But now, a few spots around town are convincing the 20- and 30something-set to turn out for weekend brunch parties.
Early this month, The Trump Hotel in Waikiki launched First Sundays @ Trump, with a made-to-order taco bar, an extensive mimosa menu and a DJ spinning tunes. Nonstop contributor Cymri Chang, who shot this gallery, says: “This wasn’t your parents’ Sunday brunch. Here, the hip and beautiful filled up the patio and lay out in the sun, soaking up the music and enjoying the buffet and the Bloody Mary bar.”
Morimoto Waikiki, tucked in the chic Waikiki EDITION, also recently launched a monthly Sunday brunch event, with a full sushi bar, Bloody Mary bar and likewise, a DJ on the decks.
