Note To Shabby

Shabby Room's sweet, vintage-inspired accessories

Shabby Room

How awesome were the Oscars last night?

We knew it was going to be good when the sock puppets started drinking. Then Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt glided onstage. And when Jennifer Lawrence stumbled up the stairs, we thought...

Well, that's something we totally would have done.

So now that we've got our fill of glitz and glamour, let's turn our attention to something shabby - like Shabby Room, a new vintage-inspired accessories boutique now open in Waikiki.

The biggest challenge to this place is finding it. Instead of street signage, look for the Watumull sign above the building entrance, then take the elevator to the second floor. It's the first door on the left.

Inside, you'll be hit with... a lot of pink. Embrace it. Once you start digging, you'll notice amazing finds that would add some serious style to your home. Think bulletin boards with vintage-inspired frames. Mugs swathed in knitted cozies. Wine bottle slate tags and a mini chalk pencil. An adorable lamp with an antique teapot base.

Owner Miiko Suzuki is responsible for the romantic, shabby chic feel. After 10 years in the Waikiki wedding planning business, she tailored her shop to what former clients wished they could find: unique, American-made or designed products that are more country cottage than beachy.

Case in point: Whoopie Cream soothing bath soaks and shea butter lotions by Farmhouse Fresh (which actually smell like whipped frosting), adorable Natural Life hedgehog coinpurses and Vance Kitira patchwork bags.

Right now, the shop carries only one local line - Simply Sparkle Designs' delicate jewelry - but Suzuki will be adding more to enhance her all-American offerings.

We appreciate a good Room with a view.

Shabby Room is open Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. at 307 Lewers St., Suite 201 in the Watumull Building. For more information, call (808) 922-3541 or visit ShabbyRoomHawaii.com.
